Arizona auctioneers are raising more than $1 million for a copart that was allegedly stolen from the home of Robert F. Lee Jr. during the Civil War.
The auction house, Otown, said Monday it would purchase the copal from the Lee estate for $2.7 million.
Otown said it was the largest and most important copal ever auctioned off.
Lee’s estate said it will accept bids through March 11, and the auction will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Tucson, Arizona.
The estate said the copals are in good condition and exhibit a rare quality.
