The auction of a giant ice sheet from Siberia to be auctioned off to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief will go on Wednesday.
The auction will be held at the Christie’s auction house in New York, the Associated Press reported.
It is one of a handful of auction sales scheduled for the fall.
The sale is expected to net the Russian government $1.2 billion, or about $2 billion more than what was paid for the Antarctic Ice Sheet.
The Arctic ice sheet has been melting at a faster rate than Antarctica in recent years, raising the possibility that the ice sheet could collapse.
The auctions are expected to bring in the highest bids.
